Cadet – Support Me
Cadet’s Support Me, released via Underrated Legends, is out now following a radio premiere on DJ Target’s Radio 1Xtra show and a spin on Annie Mac’s Radio 1 show last night.
Produced by Dirty Saj, Support Me was recorded last year, a few months before Cadet passed. Highlighted at the time by Cadet to his friends and family as “a song for my album”, it’s befitting that Support Me is the lead single to be released from his forthcoming debut long player, The Rated Legend.
Support Me’s release is accompanied by a short film directed by Labi Abebunmi (Stefflon Don, French Montana, Fekki) and award-winning Leon Mayne, (who also wrote the screenplay). The short film depicts the need for support in a relationship, (touching on what this support should or should not look like), told from the perspective of someone’s whose career is progressing. The split screen featured throughout the film illustrates the dichotomy of support from a relationship on one side, and lack of support on the other.
The release of Support Me comes ahead of Cadet’s debut album, The Rated Legend, which will be released on 10th April by Underrated Legends and is available to pre-order now. A&R’d and Executively Produced by Cadet’s cousin, Krept (of Krept & Konan), The Rated Legend also features Cadet’s Platinum certified single Advice and posthumously released Gang Gang alongside previously unreleased material from Cadet’s recording sessions. Produced by Show N Prove and Da Beatfreakz among others, guest artists on the album include: Young Adz, Konan, Swarmz, Wretch 32, Chip, Tion Wayne, Deno and Krept.
The proclaimed “Underrated Legend”, Cadet, started out in the South London based Gipset crew, with his cousin Krept, Konan and Redz. He began to plough his own path in 2015 with a series of hard-hitting freestyles, before releasing his acclaimed debut long player ‘The Commitment’ EP in 2016, follow up ‘The Commitment 2’ EP in 2017 and Gold certified single ‘Advice’ in 2018.
Praised for the passion, power and gripping narratives of his lyricism, Cadet was championed by artists such as Stormzy and Wiley and Radio 1/ 1Xtra DJS Charlie Sloth and DJ Semtex and received a UEA Award for ‘Best Rapper’ in 2017. He supported Krept & Konan on their ‘The Long Way Home Tour’ and Bugzy Malone on his ‘Walk With Me Tour’, and performed at Wireless Festival in 2017.
In February this year Cadet tragically died in a car accident on the way to perform a headline show in Staffordshire. In March, on what would have been Cadet’s 29th Birthday, many artists took to the stage of a poignantly sold out Brixton Academy for The Rated Legend show held in his honour. Those who performed included Stormzy, Lethal Bizzle, Dave, AJ Tracey, Krept & Konan, Big Shaq, Afro B, Yungen and more, with the proceeds from the show going to charitable organisation, The Cadet Trust.
